To the I-Land: the Comics of Barry Linton

I recently finished an 11-page story about the great NZ cartoonist Barry Linton for a forthcoming book edited by Sally Blundell, to be published by Auckland University Press. The book will be called 'Look This Way: New Zealand writers on New Zealand artists' – but my own contribution is 'To The I-Land: The Comics of Barry Linton.' Barry is, in my humble opinion, one of the most interesting NZ artists to have emerged since the 1960s, but although his work has crept into many consciousnesses and had a lasting impact, you'd have to say he's currently a relatively obscure and unknown figure. The amazing thing is he's still working, drawing his most ambitious comics ever – but almost no-one has seen them! I hope that will change…
